CEILING SHOWERS

I had privilege to go on shoe-string-budget trip to Europe with a few buddies after college (probably more like a flip-flop-budget) trip.

We did the bulk or our accomodations at YWAM bases or on the Euro Rail through the night.

However, one of our stops with my friends extended family in Switzerland.

It was the only part of our trip that was "boujee."

The best part was the shower in which the water came straight out of the ceiling (as opposed to a shower head our of the side wall.)

After weeks on the road, dirty trains, and YWAM bunk beads - I could have stood under this ceiling shower spout for hours.

Paul is talking about something similar in 1 Timothy 1:14.

1 TIMOTHY 1:14

Paul is talking about his having been filled with the Spirit. He uses some language like:

  • Strengthened
  • Found trustworthy
  • Appointed to serve

He says the bulk of this is because, "14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus."

In other words (to use a phrase an old pastor of mine used to use), Paul found himself "under the spout where the grace comes out."

It is interesting he doesn't say that he was splashed with it, dabbled in it, got a drop of it. Instead, grace was poured out - abundantly.

GET UNDER THE SPOUT WHERE THE GRACE COMES OUT

To return to the phrase an old pastor of mine used to use - get under the spout where the grace comes out.

There is an empowerment/strength that comes with walking under the shower of grace.

There is a faithfulness that is birthed in us when we walk under the shower of grace.

There is an appointment to serve that comes when we walk under the shower of grace.

In other words:

  • Feeling feeble? Get under the spout.
  • Feel unfaithful? Get under the spout.
  • Feeling fruitless? Get under the spout.

Life is better when we abandon on our own strength for the strenght of Christ.

Life is better when we get under the spout where the grace comes out.
