I was at a conference one day, and I remember something the speaker had something to say regarding leadership. He said, "Always make the first move. Don't wait for someone to introduce themselves to you, go initiate and introduce yourself." In other words, the speaker was saying - make the first move.
The season of Epiphany always kicks off with the manifestation or revealing of the ministry of Jesus visa-a-vi His baptism by John the Baptist. When John records this event, he notes that John that Jesus makes the first move towards John, his calling, and his vocation.
John 1:29 simply says, "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him."
It's always good to remember this:
HOWEVER, more important to remember is we are never the ones that make the first move. It has been, is currently, and always will be Jesus that is constantly "coming toward" us. Our initiations of asking, seeking, knocking, and pursuing are simply our responses to his initial whispers of eternity, the sacred, and the holy in our hearts.
As you move forward into 2023 and pursue certain faith goals, remember that God has already been and will continue to be the First Mover.
